The Making of The Frog River Watercolour Illustration
Yan Liu
This video abstract outlines the research-based creation of the children's book The Frog River. The process, grounded in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and the CREDIBLE approach, unfolds in three stages: Planning, Design, and Implementation. First, a storyboard was drafted by analysing the text's language features with SFL. Next, these elements were transformed into a cohesive visual narrative using watercolour media. Finally, the completed illustrations were integrated with the book's bilingual/multilingual texts, demonstrating a practical model for how art can support language learning. The video provides a clear framework for developing visually driven, linguistically nuanced picture books.
