Designing Accessible Anti-fraud Communication for Elderly Communities in Bayingxiang

Mingming Zhang, Dongni An, Wenqing Zhu, and Teng Qi

"This project aims to design a set of accessible and engaging anti-fraud educational materials for rural older adults in Bayinxiang, Inner Mongolia. Through the development of interactive and locally grounded resources, the project seeks to enhance digital security awareness and strengthen fraud-prevention skills among elderly community members. In response to the increasing prevalence of telephone and online scams in rural areas, the project adopts a participatory and situational learning approach that replaces traditional one-way propaganda with learner-centered, scenario-based activities.

The main outputs of the project include a teaching guide for rural educators, classroom slides based on real fraud cases, an original anti-fraud song, and an eco-friendly tote bag featuring the “Three Don’ts” rule: don’t rush, don’t believe, don’t transfer. All materials are tailored to the linguistic characteristics and lived experiences of the elderly population. By incorporating real-case explanations, role-playing, and interactive questioning, the project promotes active participation and improves learning outcomes.

This report introduces the project materials, explains how they reflect the CREDIBLE principles, outlines the development and implementation process, and concludes with reflections and directions for future expansion."

Alongside its strengths, the review also pauses on key choices and assumptions in the entry, inviting viewers to consider what the design foregrounds, what it simplifies, and what questions it leaves open.
