The Frog River, a beautifully illustrated and poetic story that teaches the timeless lesson of teamwork and the power of unity. Set by a swift and wide river, this enchanting tale follows two frogs, Jack and Mark, whose contrasting personalities—boldness and caution—lead to both missteps and growth.
When a red kangaroo and a small possum seek their advice on crossing the river, Jack’s overconfidence and Mark’s cautious warnings clash, resulting in dangerous consequences. A wise platypus intervenes, urging the brothers to set aside their differences and work together. When an old wombat later asks for help, Jack and Mark finally unite, combining their strengths to guide him safely across the river. Through their journey, they learn that teamwork, love, and foresight can overcome even the mightiest challenges.
The Frog River is more than just a story—it’s a CREDIBLE project, a collaborative initiative that brings together diverse voices and talents to create something truly special. The project began with a conversation with Kuku Yalunji elder Uncle Bennet in Far North Queensland, whose insights inspired the story’s themes of unity and cooperation. Developed in partnership with students from the University of Sydney’s LNGS 7501 – Professional Practice course, the project evolved through engagement with stakeholders, colleagues, and community members, ensuring it addressed real-world needs and values.
The book is brought to life through stunning watercolor artwork by Yan Liu, whose vibrant illustrations capture the beauty and emotion of the story. The accompanying original music, composed by Madilyn Tyzzer and Hayden White, adds an extra layer of depth, making The Frog River a multisensory experience.
But the project doesn’t stop there. The Frog River also serves as an educational resource, with students translating the story into Cantonese and Putonghua and developing language learning workbooks. These workbooks are designed to help learners of all ages practice and improve their skills in English, Cantonese, and Putonghua, making the story a valuable tool for language education.
Perfect for readers of all ages, The Frog River inspires us to embrace collaboration and cherish the bonds that unite us. Let The Frog River remind you that together, there’s no river too wide or current too fast.
