The Ribbit-Ribbit Pond is a heartwarming translingual children’s book that celebrates diversity, inclusion, and the beauty of translingualism. Written initially in English and Spanish by Iván Ignacio Parra González and beautifully illustrated, this story takes young readers on a journey with a group of frogs who discover that despite their differences, they share more in common than they ever imagined. Learn more about the Making of the Ribbit Ribbit Pond here (this text is designed to help you create your own children’s books too).

Set in a vibrant pond, the story follows the Ribbit-Ribbit frogs as they welcome the Croac-Croac frogs, who have traveled from far away to find a new home. At first, the Ribbit-Ribbit frogs notice the differences in their new neighbors—how they look, how they speak, and where they come from. But as they spend time together, they realize that friendship knows no boundaries and that diversity enriches their community.

This book is more than just a story—it’s a tool for fostering intercultural understanding and empathy in young readers. By presenting the narrative in multiple languages (translated by volunteers from around the world), The Ribbit-Ribbit Pond encourages children to embrace translingualism and see the value in different cultures and languages.

The Ribbit-Ribbit Pond is an engaging resource for teaching important lessons about acceptance, kindness, and the power of community. It can also be used for language teaching and learning; and, you can find resources to teach/learning Chinese, Vietnamese, and English here.
